Chapter 3: Chet's Proposal

Well now, things are moving along nicely between Maria and me...I think it's time I invest in a better suited home.  It can't be just any home though...it's got to be perfect for my Maria.   I looked and looked and finally decided on this one.  It has great access to fishing which we both enjoy, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths.  Plenty of room for our young uns.   Now to plan that perfect night for asking Maria to be my wife...well so I thought.

Seems one of the neighbor ladies invited me over for what she called a 'welcoming party' to welcome me to the neighborhood.  It didn't take me long to realize this was more than any ole howdee doo situation. I narrowly escaped the clutches of this blood sucking female!  I heard rumors of these creatures but never had I met one in person.  Could it be my perfect home is in a not so perfect neighborhood?

Before I could leave the party, another she-devil blocked my way and tried to woo me into her arms! Good grief what have I gotten myself into this time!  Finally I got out of that place and skedaddled my way back to my place, locked the doors and bolted the windows!  Then I settled down and planned what I now hoped would be  the perfect night for maria.

Maria and I meet a the "Hangout" and she's more lovely than ever.  I think she's sporting a new dress.  Could it be she knows what tonight is?  I have heard of women have some sort of 'intuition'.  The two of us danced and partied a while and then I ask her back to my (soon to be our) place.  I picked her up at her house and I want to surprise her with this.   However, I was the one that was more surprised than she.  We arrive at home just to find the cops there with a burglar cuffed in the front yard!   What else could possibly happen tonight?  Should I proceed with proposing? Is all of this some sort of sign that this is not the lady for me?  How could that be?  We are so perfectly matched, so in tune with each other but yet there seems to be other forces trying to tell me that maybe tonight isn't the night I wanted it to be!
